Newborn mortality rate significantly reduced in Ukraine for 5 months of 2013, head of motherhood, childhood protection and health resort treatment department of the Health Ministry of Ukraine Olena Tereshchenko told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.
"Newborn mortality rate dropped significantly. To date, it is 7.7 per thousand live births," she informed.
In the early 90s the rate was 17.7 per thousand live births. Tereshchenko stressed that by entering into the international health organization, Ukraine declared to reduce this figure by two thirds till 2015.
"The end result was expected at 9.0 per thousand live births. That is, we have achieved this goal and can show more ambitious rates," she concluded.
