More than 151 million UAH were lost due to criminal offenses in road sector for six months in 2013, deputy head of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Oleksandr Sidorov told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.
"333 criminal offenses were registered (in road sector. - Ed.), 73 - on the fact of abuse of officials of the road services departments," he noted.
Sidorov mentioned that 26 offenses resulted in losses totaling more than 500 thousand UAH, 18 offenses - amounting to more than a million hryvnia. "The total amount of losses from criminal offenses amounted to more than 151 million UAH," the official said.
According to him, 46 criminal cases were sent to court.
He stated that the most common violations at construction of roads were: the excess of cost and volume of the performed works, the use of poor quality materials, making false information in reports of completion, involvement of fictitious commercial enterprises as subcontractors, misuse of budgetary funds and failure to comply with technical standards and standards in the construction and repair of road infrastructure.
