President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych congratulated the citizens of Ukraine on 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyiv Rus, the President’s press office informs.
According to the President, Ukraine, rich in history and unique cultural achievements, is an integral part of the Christian civilization, and our capital is considered to be the apostolic city that has preserved the foundations of European culture, politics and memorable legacy.
"We are the heirs of Vladimir's baptism and we are aware of the power of faith in the difficult times of trial, which we had to go through in struggle for our statehood and independence," he said.
Yanukovych is confident that the Ukrainian people will continue taking care of the deep Christian traditions and spiritual foundations of Kyiv Rus for the flourishing of native land. "I ask the Lord to give us blessings and grace of God," a congratulatory message reads.
