In Ukraine, 16.2% of women aged from 15 to 49 years smoke, director of the Institute of Demography and Social Studies of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences Ella Libanova told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.
"The spread of smoking among women is high. 16.2% of the surveyed women aged from 15 to 49 years smoke. The largest percentage of smokers is at the age of 20-24 years. This is the age, when women give birth to their first child," she said.
Libanova noted that smoking in rural areas is much less spread than in cities, but the intensity of smoking is higher. In particular, the proportion of female smokers in rural areas amounts to about 8%, while in urban areas - 19%.
