Presidential Administration to study incident involving reporters, Berkut in Independence Square

The Presidential Administration of Ukraine took control over circumstances of the incident involving the shooting team of the Channel 5 TV channel, the statement on the website of the President of Ukraine says.

"The Committee of operative reaction to incidents involving the media, which operates under the Interagency Working Group on the analysis of status of law compliance on freedom of speech and protection of rights of journalists, took control over clarification of circumstances of the incident involving journalists in Kyiv at night, July 19, during the demolition of tents in the Independence Square," the report says.

As the Presidential Administration noted with reference to the Internal Ministry, the circumstances of beating and obstruction of the professional activities of the media by the law enforcement officials are being investigated.

As reported, last night, the Berkut special police unit broke up a peaceful rally against the tyranny of the police in the Independence Square in Kyiv. The participants of the rally demanded the resignation of interior minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko and re-assessment of all policemen.
