
Athletes and visitors from 150 countries have arrived in Donetsk for the IAAF World Youth Championships, which begin on Wednesday, Donetsk mayor Oleksandr Lukianchenko told a press conference on Wednesday, Ukrinform reported.
"These are representatives of 150 countries. Together with the visitors, these are about three thousand people," the mayor said.
He said that athletes and guests were still arriving in the city. Lukianchenko said that Donetsk is fully prepared for the World Youth Championships. IAAF families were accommodated in five-star Donbass Palace Hotel. The teams, technical staff and the media were accommodated in large 3-5-star hotels in the city. About 300 police officers were additionally invited from the region to ensure public order in the city.
The championships will be held in Donetsk from July 10 to July 14 at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium. Athletes will compete for 120 sets of medals in 40 track and field disciplines.
