Russia and Ukraine did not discuss the possibility of introduction of counter measures following specific duties on car imports, so the statement of the Russian Federation about the possibility of entering special duties on chocolate, glass, and coal imports from Ukraine is an element of pressure, Government Plenipotentiary for European Integration Valeriy Pyatnitskii said.
He noted that if the Turkey's statement about the possibility of response to special duty on cars import looks like an invitation to dialogue, the actions of Russia resembles the pressure to achieve the desired result.
He noted that Russia, as a member of the Customs Union, alone cannot make a decision to impose special duties, as they will apply to all members of the CU.
Pyatnitskii also informed that the questions on the application of safeguard measures by Ukraine, in particular, the special duties on car imports, quotas on coking coal imports, on the claims of the WTO members will be considered on July 11 by the Council for Trade in Goods of the organization.
