Taking into account the predicted temperature increase, it is necessary to intensify efforts to prevent fires at hazardous industrial and military sites, as well as in the forests. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andriy Kliuyev on Monday at a meeting of the temporary inter-agency working group on fire safety, ForUm learned from the National Security and Defense Council press service.

According to him, hot summer this year has created an extremely threatening situation: the eastern, central and southern regions of Ukraine have high (5th grade) fire hazard level. The NSDC secretary stressed that today we need to use the successful experience in combating large-scale fires in extremely hot summers of 2010-2011.

Kliuyev noted that in such a hot season it is essential to achieve high technological discipline and strict compliance with fire safety regulations at all, without exception, dangerous objects. The first step is to ensure the proper functioning of the dust protection systems in areas of preparation of pulverized coal in thermal power plants, he said.

Kliuyev reminded that following the meeting of the Council of Regions (which took place on June 20 in Luhansk), Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych instructed to study the issue of fire safety hazards and high-risk facilities, including a state of compliance with fire safety in coal stocks. In this regard, President instructed the Secretary of the NSDC to create an interagency working group to report to the President on the results of their work prior to July 12.
