Failure to sign the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement would be a blow to the Eastern Partnership initiative, foreign minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevicius said in Vilnius on Thursday, the Brussels EurActiv reported.

"Failure to sign an association agreement with Ukraine at a regional summit in November would be a blow for the EU's Eastern Partnership initiative aimed at pulling six former Soviet republics closer to the EU," the diplomat said, Ukrinform informed.

Linkevicius added that the Association Agreement is "not just technical negotiations with just another partner", it is a "geopolitical process".

At the same time, the Lithuanian foreign minister noted that Ukraine "had a lot of outstanding work to do before the agreement can be signed, including addressing EU concerns about governance and democracy."
