President Viktor Yanukovych submitted the law on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine on the judicial system reformation to the Verkhovna Rada, the head of state said about this during the oath rite of judges, who were appointed to positions for the first time, on Thursday in Kyiv, Ukrinform reported.

"Our priority is approval of the European model of legal proceedings. I consider making amendments to the Constitution as priority, which in compliance with the European and international standards allow guaranteeing independence of the court. The Venice Commission carried out an expert appraisal of the proposed amendments. Following a thorough development of the proposed amendments, I submit this law for consideration of the parliament today," he has said.

According to Yanukovych, the proposed amendments to the Constitution are called to reorganize the existing procedure of appointment and resignation of judges, to reduce the role of political subjects and to vest with main authorities the bodies in solution of the issues concerning the judges.

"I hope that solution of those problems, which were repeatedly criticized and not understood by our European counterparts, will rally all political forces in the parliament, and amendments to the Constitution will get overall parliamentary support," the head of state stressed.
