Introduction in Ukraine of high quality standards for products within the framework of signing of the Association with the European Union could lead to higher prices for them.

This was stated by research director of the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting Veronika Movchan during the public debate devoted to discussion of the economic consequences of the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, ForUm correspondent reports.
"The introduction of high quality standards in production will improve the quality of the goods and, consequently, will lead to increase in value in the short term," she said.

According to Movchan, the better protection of intellectual property, also provided for by the Agreement, will also lead to increase in cost of goods, which have an intellectual component.

"Stopping the use of unlicensed equipment, as well as disappearance of the goods, imported without a license, will lead to higher prices for goods that are protected by that law," the expert accentuated.

Movchan noted that abolition of EU subsidies on agricultural products may result in rise in price for these products. Also, she said, it’s no sense expect lower prices for imported cars as a result of the signing of the Association. Their price may be reduced only after 10-15 years after the signing of the Agreement.
