Ukrainian farmers have already managed to collect more than six million tons of grain despite difficult weather conditions, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

"In Ukraine, despite the fact it rains in majority of the regions, harvest has begun. In 15 regions and AR Crimea grain growers have harvested early grain and leguminous crops on the area of 2.6 million hectares, which is twice more than last year. Farmers have already harvested more than 6 million tons of grain, and this is just the beginning. It could be called optimistic," the head of government said.

The Prime Minister noted that over a million tons of grain were harvested in Odesa and Mykolayiv regions, and Dnipropetrovsk region also approaches one-million mark.

"Due to the fact that this year significantly better care for crops has been provided, grain yield has increased in all regions. It is nearly 24 centners per 1 hectare, whereas last year it was a little more than 16 centners. Experts believe that we will get the grain harvest of about 10-12 million tons more than last year," he added.

Thus, according to Azarov, about 54 million tons of grains and legumes could be harvested in Ukraine.
