Ukraine hopes to sign the Association Agreement with the EU during Lithuania's presidency of the Council of the European Union.

"Ukraine welcomes the first in the history Lithuania's six-month presidency of the EU Council, which for the first time will bring together 28 EU Member States," the statement of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on the occasion of start of Lithuania's Presidency of the EU says.

According to the statement, Ukraine hopes to strengthen close cooperation with Lithuania on topical issues of relations between Ukraine and the EU, particularly in key areas such as strengthening of energy security, development of the trans-European transport network, and cooperation in field of justice, freedom and security.

"We lay special hopes on signing of the Association Agreement with the EU at the Vilnius summit of Eastern Partnership in November of this year. We hope that together we will be able to make a historic contribution to the development of a strong, secure and prosperous Europe, and also to begin a new phase in relations between the EU and Ukraine," the Foreign Ministry stresses.
