The Defense Ministry will propose to Ukrainian leaders possible variants of the country's participation in the peacekeeping operation in Mali, Ukrinform reports.
Defense Minister Pavlo Lebedev has said about this in an interview to Kommersant Ukraine.
“There is a proposal, for instance, concerning Mali. However, it was hardly an invitation. We have been asked whether we can render certain help. We answered that we have medical equipment, tents and other property and are ready to render all this. In the nearest future, the Ministry will propose possible variants of our participation in Mali to the country's leaders,” he said.
Lebedev noted that peacekeeping activities promote receiving invaluable experience at flash points. “But we thoroughly analyze every such proposal on joining the UN missions. The key factors in taking decisions are safety of living of our peacekeepers and compliance of their participation with national interests and Ukraine's legislation,” the Minister specified.
