President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated the citizens of Ukraine on the Constitution Day, the press service of the head of state reports.
"Seventeen years ago, the Main Law of our state was adopted. This document created a powerful basis for the development and strengthening of democratic, social and legal principles of our society," he noted.
According to the President, a citizen, his life and health, honour and dignity, immunity and security are the highest social values. "The Constitution contains an extremely valuable and humane idea that the government is functioning for humans," Yanukovych stressed.
The head of state noted that the experience of our independence demonstrated that the Main Law must meet the modern needs of Ukrainian development.
"In the framework of the Constitutional Assembly, we must draft a Main Law that would meet the highest European standards. The main goal of the renewed Constitution is further democratization and efficiency of its provisions given the new challenges of our state," he stated.
"I am confident that our joint work will unite Ukrainian society and lay foundation for the development of modern, democratic and European Ukraine. I wish everyone welfare, prosperity and peace. Congratulations on the Constitution Day!" the President said.
