Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) discussed in Kyiv on Thursday the state of the world economy and the economy of Ukraine, he said in Kyiv on Thursday at a ceremony to present government awards to young people who have made a special contribution to the development of Ukraine

"I’ve just finished a meeting with the new head of the IMF mission in Ukraine. We had a fairly frank exchange of views. We discussed the condition of the world economy, the state of the financial markets and, of course, we were talking about the economy of Ukraine," the Ukrainian Premier said.

The Prime Minister said that they had also talked about the risks that may arise from the difficult economic situation in the world markets, as well as the ways to minimize these risks.

"We clearly understand that in spite of such risks, and the difficult situation in the global economy, we stand on a solid foundation, and this foundation is based on the understanding of what we need to do," Azarov said.

He also expressed confidence that Ukraine would get through this difficult period, and would continue to develop.
