
U.S. diplomat Geoffrey Pyatt, which was nominated by U.S. President Barack Obama as an ambassador to Kyiv, stated that in the case of his appointment he is going to help Ukraine become a modern European democratic state, Radio Liberty reports.
Speaking at the hearing on his appointment in the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate, Pyatt said that he will promote Ukraine to fulfill the conditions required for the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union.
The candidacy of Pyatt has to be approved by the relevant committee and the entire composition of the U.S. Senate. Ukraine also needs to approve it.
The current U.S. ambassador John Tefft will complete his mission in Ukraine in a few months.
