Venice Commission pleased with progress of judicial reform in Ukraine
Ukraine is making progress in optimization of the judicial branch of government, Secretary of the Venice Commission Thomas Markert said in an interview with the BTB channel.

Markert welcomed the proposals concerning amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, which exclude the Parliament from the process of appointment of judges.

"The good news is that the probationary period for judges is canceled, and nominations for judges will not be approved in the Verkhovna Rada in five years," he noted.

In his opinion, in the future the composition of the High Council of Justice will be more qualitative. "It will be composed of judges elected by the other judges," the Secretary of the Venice Commission stressed.

In addition, Markert stated that Ukraine had taken into account the recommendations previously proposed to improve the electoral and judicial system.
