This year, the condition of Ukrainian roads after the winter period is the worst for the whole period of independence, head of the State agency on automobile roads "Ukravtodor" Yevhen Prusenko told a press conference, ForUm's correspondent reports.

"The roads are in a terrible condition, the worst ever for the period of Ukraine's independence. Moreover, the decay does not stop, and near every fixed part new cracks keep appearing," he said.

According to him, as of today only 80% of roads has been repaired. "There are 5.2 million square meters of roads need patching, which is twice more comparing to the last. We've already fixed 4.2 million sq m,  but we still have one million sq m of local and main roads to fix. We do everything possible to finish by the end of June," he assured.

Prusenko noted that the principle cause of road destruction is overbalance of weight load on vehicles. "The Cabinet is considering a draft bill on strengthening control over load weight limits. We have 38 trolley scales and labs, which travel around Ukraine and control the weight load on vehicles. The draft bill provides for increase of fines for excess weigh. In particular, fines for state officials will be increased to 17 thousand hryvnias," the official said.
