During the 18th Summit of Heads of State of Central Europe, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said that Ukraine has unchanged desire to become a part of Europe, the President’s press office informs.

According to the President, the EU for us is an example of a political, economic and social success. It is not only an example, but also a catalyst for systemic socio-economic reforms, which are now held in Ukraine. "United Europe is a clearly declared civilized choice of Ukraine. Such a choice is based not only on the geopolitical realities and economic feasibility, but also, above all, on the natural European identity of our nation, its historical, cultural and value unity with the rest of the Europeans," he said.

He stressed the importance of the prospect of EU membership. "I do not see any objective reasons, which would deprive Ukraine and several other countries in the region of such a powerful integration tool," Yanukovych said.

According to Ukrainian President, Ukraine understands that Europeans are quite sensitive to the further enlargement of the EU in difficult times of crisis. "However, this European pessimism has not affected the Ukrainian society," he said.

The President expressed the hope that the Association Agreement with the EU will be signed during the summit of "Eastern Partnership" in Vilnius in November this year.

"This document is not just a declaration of the beginning of a qualitatively new level of relations between Ukraine and the EU. For Ukraine it is, first and foremost, a detailed program of reforms in all spheres of life of our country in line with European standards, the road map of our rapprochement with the European Union, the tool of consolidation of European values ," the President said.

According to him, the key component of the agreement with the EU will be the creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area. "This will pave the way for the integration of the state economy in the EU internal market, so - will boost its qualitative modernization," he noted. The President believes that the addition of the internal market of Ukraine to the European Economic Area will have a "significant positive impact on the pan-European economic situation and will help Europe to emerge from crisis".

"That's why the signing of this historic document is mutually beneficial for both Ukraine and the European Union," Yanukovych said.
