Agricultural enterprises in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Odesa region have started harvesting early grain and leguminous crops, the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry reported.

The report notes that this year farmers began the harvesting campaign earlier than last year, Interfax informs.

The Ministry said that in order to reduce the loss of grain, farmers need to harvest early grain and leguminous crops within 12-14 days.

"Farmers in all regions currently have sufficient resources, in particular, equipment, to use the optimum time to carry out the harvesting campaign," reads the statement.

As a reminder, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry expects Ukraine to harvest 53-54 million tons of grain in 2013, compared to 46.2 million tons in 2012.

Earlier, the Ministry set up the headquarters for coordinating the harvesting campaign.

The Ministry estimated the country’s demand for grain at about 28 million tons per year.
