Former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski expects settlement of the basic problems that prevent the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union by the end of September, he stated in an interview with Polish Radio, Ukrinform reports.

"The EU has outlined three conditions that must be met in order to sign the Association Agreement in November this year, during the summit in Vilnius: reform of the legal system, electoral system and the Tymoshenko case... It seems that there is a chance before the end of September to yield a result on the three issues, which will allow the EU to assert that there are prerequisites for signing the Association Agreement," Kwasniewski said.

Commenting on the signing of the memorandum of cooperation between Ukraine and the Customs Union, the former Polish leader called it a natural step, as Ukraine, even in association with the EU, wants to have good relations with Russia.

"It is a matter of economic dependence, at least on matters of gas, oil, the market for Ukrainian goods. It seems to me that the questions of trying not to irritate Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus also make sense," Kwasniewski said.

He called it important that the European side had received a promise from Kyiv on presentation to the relevant EU institutions of all the issues discussed with the Customs Union.
