Foreign direct investment in the Ukrainian economy in the last year increased by 10%, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said, speaking at the Ukrainian-Serbian business forum in Belgrade.
"At the end of the first quarter of 2013, the total volume of direct foreign investments in the Ukrainian economy amounted to more than U.S. $ 55 billion and increased by 10 percent," the President announced.
Yanukovych stressed that according to results of 2012, growth in investment in Ukrainian economy amounted to about 15%. "That's not enough, but I would like to say that this year these volumes increase. Retail trade has grown by almost 13% this year," he said.
President added that according to the government's macroeconomic forecast, this year Ukraine expects GDP growth of 3.4% under the optimistic and 2.5% under the pessimistic scenario.
"However, it is possible that during the year these forecasts will be adjusted somewhat due to the economic developments in Europe and in the world, because our economies are vulnerable," the President concluded.
