Ukraine and Serbia have signed an agreement on cooperation in rail transport, tourism, and in the sphere of plant protection and quarantine.

The respective intergovernmental agreements were signed on Thursday after the talks held as part of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych’s official visit to Serbia, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

An agreement on cooperation in the field of rail transport will help attract additional cargo in order to more fully use the potential of transport infrastructure of both countries, improving cargo transportation between Ukraine and Serbia and therefore raising the safety standards of rail traffic between the two countries.

Other bilateral documents were also signed in the presence of the two presidents. The issue concerns a program of cultural cooperation between the concerned ministries of Ukraine and Serbia, an agreement on cooperation in the field of education between the education and science ministries, as well as a memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the State Agency for Investment and National Projects of Ukraine and Serbia Investment and Export Promotion Agency.

In addition, the Presidents of Ukraine and Serbia signed a joint statement.
