Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has set the task of speeding up structural reform in the national economy this year, Interfax informs.

“This year we need to speed up structural reform in the national economy and at the same time find an answer to the new challenges caused by the global economic crisis. The upcoming period will be a significant challenge for Ukraine, an important test of the policy of reform and development,” according to the opening remarks of the president’s annual address to the Verkhovna Rada on the domestic and foreign situation in Ukraine in 2013, which were posted on the Web site of the head of state on Thursday.

Yanukovych said that the issues put on the agenda include the further reform of the system of public administration and the transition to a state model based on servicing the needs of citizens. In particular, the president said, every city and district should have a modern center for the provision of administrative services.

“Each of them should provide a guaranteed list of services most requested by citizens and businesses. They should be provided in the shortest time,” Yanukovych said.
