Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych stated that the authorities intend to build relations with the countries of the Customs Union with the aim of creating conditions for the growth of the national economy.
"First of all, I would like nobody to scare us with that we sign. Ukraine and the Customs Union have trade turnover of 63 billion dollars, and we need to think how to secure it, how to build up these relationships, how to build the model to facilitate the conditions for the economy growth. My personal actions and actions of my like-minded people are directed at ensuring these objectives," he said today in Sumy, answering journalists' questions regarding the memorandum on the deepening of cooperation between Ukraine and the Eurasian Economic Commission.
The President stressed that "we in no case should abandon our traditional sources of supplies and markets of supplies of our products."
"Certainly, our trade ties should be developed," he said.
Yanukovych also added that the European vector is defined by the law of Ukraine on the principles of domestic and foreign policy.
