For years of Ukraine’s independence, the number of donors has decreased almost threefold, director of the state institution "Institute of blood pathology and transfusion medicine of NAMS of Ukraine"  Vasyl Novak said during a round table "Infectious safety of donor blood and its components in Ukraine," ForUm correspondent reports.

"In 2012, we had 546.685 donors. This is a critical figure. If the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends us to have 12-15 milliliters of donated blood per person, we have only 8.2 - 9.1 milliliters," the expert noted.

In this case, Novak said that these figures vary significantly in different regions.
