Over the last six years, the number of children, deprived of parental care, has decreased by 26% in Kyiv, head of service for children in Kyiv Mykola Kuleba stated, ForUm correspondent reports.


"As of today, there are 2.402 such children in the capital," Kuleba said.

The official informed that 86% of orphans are brought up in family-type children's homes. This figure is the second result in Ukraine. The leader is Rivne region, where 91% of children are brought up in family-type orphanages.

"At this point, 325 children in Kyiv (14%), deprived of parental care, are brought out of the foster family, 25 (2%) are in process of adoption, 300 (12%) study or study in non-family institutions of (nursing home, children's home, centers for social and psychological rehabilitation, boarding schools)," Kuleba noted.

It should be noted that as of June 1, 2013, 155 children, deprived of parental care, were brought up in 14 family-type children's homes in Kyiv. In addition, 6-7 family-type homes are planned to be opened in Kyiv before the end of year.
