Foreign minister of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara met with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks, who is paying a working visit to Ukraine due to participation in the international round table, the Foreign Ministry press service informs.

The two parties discussed a wide range of issues of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Ukraine and in the global context. Ukrainian party stressed the importance of the mandate of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights for the whole of Europe and noted personal activity of Muižnieks in this post. Evidence of this is the wide geography of visits of the Commissioner, who just in a year has visited nearly two dozen countries - members of the Council of Europe.

The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has confirmed Ukraine's readiness for further cooperate with the Commissioner for Human Rights, in implementing its mandate.

As the current chairperson-in-office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Kozhara acquainted Muižnieks with the priorities of the Ukrainian presidency, especially in the humanitarian dimension. The minister drew attention of the interlocutor to the International High-Level Conference on fight against human trafficking to be held in Kyiv on June 10-11, which will be attended by experts of the Council of Europe.

Kozhara expressed hope for fruitful cooperation in the field of human rights, both within the framework of Ukraine's participation in the Council of Europe and between the Council of Europe and the OSCE.
