Moscow urges EU not to engage in "tug of war", and allow Ukraine to choose either to join the European Union or the Customs Union, Russia's permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov stated.

"Various EU representatives make rather harsh assessments, up to poorly veiled threats that the entry into the Customs Union will mean the loss of Ukraine's sovereignty. We do not think so. Moreover, we consider it wrong to engage in a tug of war and put Kyiv in front of some dilemmas," he said during the Moscow - Brussels video conference.

"It’s up to Ukrainians, their leadership, the Parliament and public opinion to decide. Maybe they should compare proposals of each party," Chizhov noted.

According to him, the EU offers the Association Agreement, putting forward a mass of conditions, including with respect to its signing. "If we talk about the future, let's call a spade a spade, no one offers Ukraine full membership in the European Union, and I'm sure that will not offer in the near future. Meanwhile the Customs Union offers Ukraine's full membership with all the rights and obligations," he added.
