11 joint pilot innovative projects are expected to be approved at the Council of the CIS Heads of Government, first deputy head of the Executive Committee - CIS executive secretary Vladimir Garkun told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports from Minsk, Belarus.

According to the official, the participants of the meeting will discuss the progress of the interstate program of innovation development, which began in 2012. "A list of pilot and innovative interstate projects was formed on its basis. The projects cover various areas of work and focus on the development of IT-technology, nanotechnology, manufacturing sector, aviation, aerospace and transportation systems. Some of them relate to security issues, energy efficiency, environmental management, medicine," the expert noted.

He added that the CIS heads of government will discuss the draft agreement on coordination of inter-state relations in field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Traditionally, the event addresses issues and humanitarian subjects, he specified. "It is proposed to discuss the agreement on cooperation in the environmental field, as the year 2013 is declared the Year of Ecological Culture and Environment in the CIS. This fact has inspired member states to reflect on the need for establishing an environment council within the framework of the CIS Executive Committee," the official informed.

The meeting participants will also consider a number of other humanitarian projects, in particular, those on the mutual recognition of higher and incomplete higher education. "So, in the near future it is planned to hold a congress of Russian language teachers of the CIS. A plan for the development of physical culture for 2013-15 is also prepared. On the whole, the agenda of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government consists of 19 items, which include more than 30 issues. The most important ones are the issues of financial and economic bloc. Among others, it is expected to sign the Protocol on the application of the CIS FTA Agreement of October 18, 2011 between its parties and Uzbekistan. This will mean expanding the legal space of the FTA through this country on the basis of the WTO norms and rules," Garkun added.
