Ukraine still has problems in providing children from rural areas with medical assistance and the problem of child mortality rate, healthcare minister Rayisa Bohatyriova said during a video conference “Ask a minister”, ForUm correspondent reports.

"It's no secret that the city residents have more opportunities to get a safe medical help, and children from rural areas have fewer such opportunities. In 2012, 385 thousand children were given medical aid in the regional children's hospitals, of whom only 39% were children living in rural areas," she noted.

Thus, according to Bohatyriova, only 6% of children from villages were treated in the regional children's hospitals in Donetsk region, 12.7% - in Luhansk, 18.5% - in Kharkiv. At the same time, the figure is almost 67% in Vinnytsia, Poltava, Chernivtsi, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kherson regions.

Bohatyriova also emphasized that she considers unacceptable high levels of infant mortality in the central district, regional and district hospitals. This figure, according to the minister, today is 12-15%.
