The Constitutional Court of Ukraine made a ruling on the date of the elections of Kyiv mayor and deputies of the Kyiv City Council, the court’s press service reported.
The court made a decision on the issue on Wednesday and will announce it on May 30 at 3 pm, Interfax-Ukraine informed.
As a reminder, the five-year term of the Kyiv mayor and deputies of Kyiv City Council expires at the end of May. The parliamentary opposition has initiated several times the consideration of a draft instruction to the Ukrainian parliament to schedule elections in Kyiv, however the parliamentary majority voted it down, saying there had to be a Constitutional Court ruling on the issue.
On June 1, 2012, Leonid Chernovetsky resigned as Kyiv mayor. Kyiv City Council appointed Secretary of Kyiv City Council Halyna Hereha as acting mayor.
