Lithuanian foreign minister Linas Linkevicius said that the European Union is currently not yet ready to sign the Association Agreement with Ukraine.
“If we were to decide today whether we can sign the Association Agreement, unfortunately, the answer would be negative. Some work still needs to be done,” he told a press conference on Wednesday.
Linkevicius discussed the issue of Ukraine at a meeting with Danish Minister for European Affairs Nicolai Wammen who arrived in Vilnius, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
Wammen noted that the EU would like the agreement to be signed during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius this November. He said that the settlement of the issue of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko would contribute to the EU’s decision to sign this agreement.
“Ukraine will have to do more. We’re talking about democratic reform, the justice system, selective justice and general reforms. And we say clearly that the settlement of the case of Yulia Tymoshenko would be very helpful,” Wammen said.
