Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov insists on immediate modernization of tourism industry.

According to him, the tourism industry has a great potential for development. "Development of tourism is at the same time the development of other sectors of the economy such as transportation, communications, construction, trade, and others ... In the EU, tourism generates 8% of total GDP, while the number of jobs in the tourism industry is about 12% of the total employment. Ukraine should be guided by this level and it is quite feasible," PM said, opening the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

Azarov also noted that a quality industry reform needs finalizing the state target program for the development of truism and resorts, creating the optimal legal standards, developing the necessary technical regulations and national standards.

"We need to ensure the rational use and protection of tourist and recreational resources through certification, a comprehensive inventory and assessment of the state of tourism facilities to meet modern requirements and finally to create a tourism state support system through working out the concept and draft of the state program for the period up to 2023," he said.

Prime Minister added that the next Cabinet’s meeting will address the challenges of the industry and will hear the report of the State Agency for Tourism and Resorts.
