Head of the World Health Organization Dr. Margaret Chan, speaking at the closing of 66th session of the WHO Assembly in Geneva, named the novel coronavirus main global threat to mankind.

In particular, Dr. Chan said that the main concern is the difference between the rate of virus spread and accumulation of scientific information about it.

“We understand too little about this virus when viewed against the magnitude of its potential threat. Any new disease that is emerging faster than our understanding is never under control,” she stated.
According to her, there is a need for international response to the situation. "The novel coronavirus is a threat to the entire world," Dr. Chan stressed.

Her assistant, Dr. Keiji Fukuda, added that the world is not ready for a possible deadly viral disease. The probability of the virus threat is confirmed by the outbreak of bird flu in China and spread of the novel coronavirus from the Middle East, because of scarcity of scientific information about these pathogens.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Healthcare Ministry is examining situation with the spread of coronavirus.
