Ukraine will decide on its own with whom and how it will upgrade its gas transport system (GTS), EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule stated.

He said this in Brussels on Tuesday during the third session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, which took place at the European Parliament with the participation of five Eastern Partnership member states [Belarus did not participate] – Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan – when asked by a member of the European Parliament about a meeting of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to decide on the fate of Ukraine’s GTS in the absence of representatives from Brussels, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

“Our proposal is known very well. I mean the proposal to participate in a trilateral or multilateral project for the modernization of the gas transport system, and Ukraine will choose the best way to maintain the system to ensure that it is a reliable supplier [of Russian gas to the EU],” Fule said.
