Ukraine has real prospects to step up cooperation with Kazakhstan in the field of energy, Ukrainian ambassador to Kazakhstan Oleh Diomin said.
He also said that trade between the two countries currently stands at 4.2 billion USD.
Diomin said Kazakhstan wants to upgrade its hydroelectric power plants, and that a number of Ukrainian companies producing equipment for them are already winning tenders. Among them are Electrotyazhmash, Turboatom, and Zaporizhtransformator (ZTR), Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“While the capacity of the entire energy system of Kazakhstan is 20,000 megawatts, 4,000 are produced by turbines that at one time were delivered from Ukraine. So you understand what opportunities we have?” he said.
The diplomat also added: “The first thing to which you need to draw the attention of our Ukrainian business is the modernization of the power generating capacity of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan already consumes practically all of the electricity [it generates],” he added.
