President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych opened the monument to "Defenders of the Fatherland Borders" in Kyiv,” ForUm correspondent reports.
"It is symbolic that the monument is erected in the capital, since Kyiv is the cradle of Slavic state, it represents and unites with its history deeds of all generations of defenders of state boundaries. Many centuries ago, there was an impregnable rampart near the St. Sophia Cathedral and the Golden Gate. It signified the boundaries of ancient Kyiv. Defenders of that time took the hit of enemies there... I cannot but remind you also a great deed of border guards in the Great Patriotic War," Yanukovych said.
The opening ceremony of the monument was also attended by head of the Administration of the President of Ukraine Serhiy Liovochkin, the NSDC secretary Andriy Kliuyev, incomes and fees minister Oleksandr Klimenko, head of the Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov and other officials.
