Advisor to the President - head of the Main Department for International Relations of the Administration of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Honcharuk believes that Ukraine should find a balance in its relations with the Customs Union and the European Union. As ForUm earned from the President’s press service, he said this on air of the TV channel ICTV, responding to a question on the choice of the foreign policy vector. "I think our fate is, indeed, a balance, finding a balance," he noted.

According to him, the observer status in the Customs Union will allow Ukraine to have profitable cooperation with this organization. "Observer status gives us the opportunity to see how mechanisms of the Customs Union work," he said.
 
In particular, the advisor to the President noted that the status of observer in the Customs Union will allow Ukraine having free access to the legal framework and internal documentation of the association. Moreover, he added that if Ukraine achieves this status, it will have a representative in the Customs Union and will be able to submit its proposals on topical issues of cooperation.

Honcharuk added that a draft Memorandum, developed by a working group led by vice Prime Minister Yuri Boiko and the partners, will be discussed during the meetings of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in Astana.

However, he stressed that Ukraine will move in the directions to provide the maximum benefits for reforms in all spheres of national life.

"We have to move in directions, which we give maximum benefits to reform the economy, to rebuild the economy, to rebuild various spheres of life, social life, humanitarian sphere," he stated.
