Chairman of the Party of Regions faction in the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Yefremov opposes the participation of the Parliament in appointment of judges.

"We agreed that the appointment of judges in the Parliament is only of approving nature. "In general, by and large, the requirements of the international community to our state include non-participation of the Parliament in the appointment of judges, as they are different branches of power," he told a briefing.

According to Yefremov, each branch should work independently and MPs shouldn’t put pressure on the judiciary.

However, he stressed that the involvement of Parliament in the appointment of judges is stipulated in the Constitution.
