The British Embassy in Ukraine is planning to seek an increase in the number of UK visas being issued to Ukrainian citizens, UK Ambassador Simon Smith has said.

“Speaking about facilitation, we will seek to increase the issuing of long-term visas to those citizens who have grounds for regular trips to the UK, which should lead to a decrease in the number of applications,” the diplomat said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, while analyzing the situation in the visa sphere.

He said that Ukrainians can obtain a UK visa for a period of two, five or ten years, and this is quite possible.

“Of course, those wishing to get a long-term visa must fully comply with all requirements and must justify why they need a visa for regular travel to the UK,” he said.

In addition, he said, a system of electronic payments for UK visas has already been introduced, and this should simplify the procedure of payments for visa services.

As for the statistics, Smith said, last year 92% of the total number of Ukrainian citizens who submitted documents to the visa center obtained visas, which in general is a sign of a positive figure.

“We will continue to look for ways to provide opportunities for Ukrainian citizens to visit Britain. Britain is not a member of the Schengen zone and in the foreseeable future it will not join it, but we are following the discussions of our partners, including on the facilitation of the visa regime, and we will draw respective conclusions for ourselves,” he said.
