Economic development and trade minister of Ukraine Ihor Prasolov notes the progressive growth of trade and economic relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus. He said this, speaking at the 22nd session of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Ukrainian commission for trade and economic cooperation, chaired by vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Arbuzov.

"Now, Ukrainian-Belarusian trade turnover stands at pre-crisis level. Thus, the trade turnover between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus for the last three years more than doubled and by the end of 2012 amounted to 7.52 billion U.S. dollars. Over the last year, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by $ 1.15 billion or 18.1%," Prasolov stressed.

As a consequence, Republic of Belarus ranked 2nd among the CIS trade partners of Ukraine in 2012 (after Russia), and the 4th among the world countries.

According to the minister, trade and economic relations between the two countries have a great potential. Among the priorities of their development it is possible to point out the transport sector, production of agricultural, agro-industrial complex.

Prasolov also noted several problematic issues, which have already been raised at the previous meeting of the Commission. In particular, timing of clearance of Ukrainian confectionery products when imported into Belarus. As of today, unfortunately, a number of companies suspended supplies, resulting in significant losses of Ukrainian producers.

"However, we believe that these issues can and should be resolved, and today's joint meeting of the Commission will contribute to the further development of our cooperation," economic development and trade minister of Ukraine said.
