A certain situation in the housing market is needed in order to launch the mass reconstruction or demolition of “Khruschev-era” apartment buildings, head of the Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov told journalists, ForUm correspondent reports.

"If the situation is positive, it allows doing such projects solely as commercial ones. Basically, the city is ready to start launch such programs, but now it is not profitable," Popov said.

At the same time the chairman of the KCSA said that over the past two years there were cases in the capital when such building were upgraded and built new ones.

"But it does not solve the problem. My vision is that this program will not massively work in 2013-2014. Perhaps if it gains state support not only in Kyiv but also in other cities, then it can be massively launched. Unfortunately today we can not do that," Popov noted.
