The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is planning to set up a department to monitor the construction and maintenance of roads, vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul said during Hour of Questions to the Government in Parliament, ForUm correspondent reports.

"The government is working on creation a public transport inspection, which will monitor the quality of work of the State Road Service of Ukraine, as today "Ukravtodor" constructs and controls by itself," he noted.
 
According to him, this year 600 road infrastructure facilities are planned to be built, including bypass roads, roads outside urban areas, etc.

In addition, Vilkul called the main factors of pavement destruction.

"Many of the roads were constructed in 1960-70s and were designed for load of 3.5 tons per vehicle axle. - He said. - Today load is three times higher - up to 11.5 tons".

The second factor, according to official, is the number of cars.

In addition, Vilkul noted that weather conditions significantly affected road conditions.
"We had 8-10 winters this year," he said.
