Six sailors were killed in a fire on the crab fishing vessel Taigan at Wakkanai Port on Hokkaido Island in northern Japan on Wednesday evening. Their bodies were found by rescuers, who were able to get on the board after 11 hours the fire had started. The crew consisted of four Ukrainians and 19 Russians, but the nationality of the victims are still unknown.

Most of the crew was able to leave the ship. Captain Vitaly Saltaganov survived. According to various sources, two or three people were hospitalized and their life is not in danger. One of the victims was poisoned by smoke, the other two have minor burns.
