Foreign minister of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara believes that the change in the status of crossing the Ukrainian-Russian border in case Russia introduces obligatory use of foreign passports for entry into its territory, should be gradual.
"If the rules of travel of Ukrainian citizens to Russia are changed, the process must be gradual, so that all could get a passport during a few years," he said.
Speaking about the possible obligatory use of foreign passports in the near future, Kozhara said that if it happens, it will be a negative point for the citizens of both countries.
"Millions of Ukrainian citizens, crossing the Russian-Ukrainian border, use internal passport. As of today, a change would cause a large humanitarian crisis, not only for Ukrainian citizens, but also for Russian citizens entering Ukraine," Kozhara concluded.
