Today the European Commission is to approve the recommendations for the EU Council on the future signing, provisional application and conclusion of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. Today's decision of the European Commission, in the case of a positive outcome of the summit of "Eastern Partnership" in Vilnius, will make possible the implementation of the provisions of the Association.

Peter Stano, member of the EC in charge of Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, stated that the decision will be made on the basis of Ukraine's implementation of the requirements, previously put forward by the EU.

"This is a technical preparation for the European Commission to be able to sign the association agreement in Vilnius during the summit of "Eastern Partnership" in November, if the EU member states decide that Ukraine has met the expectations and fulfill all the conditions, put by the European Union in December last year. The EU member states are now waiting and monitoring Ukraine’s advance in its road map, which was agreed in December last year, based on EU recommendations, decrees of the President of Ukraine and government decisions," Stano noted.

In early April this year, first vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Arbuzov held several meetings with representatives of the European Commission to discuss Ukraine’s implementation of the EU recommendations and conduct of reforms, required for the signing of the Association Agreement. The results were positively assessed by the Commissioners. These positive signals gave experts reason to say that today's decision will be positive, and the European Commission will give a recommendation on the signing of the agreement in November.
