New anti-corruption law, passed by the Verkhovna Rada today, is aimed at eliminating a number of gaps in the Ukrainian legislation and improving the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures in Ukraine. This was stated by secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andriy Kliuyev, commenting on the law on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on implementation of the state anti-corruption policy, the press service of the NSDC informs.

In his opinion, this is one of the most important bills, which were to be taken on the way to the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. Kliuyev recalled that the adoption of this document is also provided for by the action plan for liberalization of the EU visa regime for Ukraine.

NSDC secretary mentioned as important innovation the creation of a monitoring mechanism of financial declarations of officials. However, he said, quality work of this mechanism still needs practicing in implementation, which may require additional legislative improvements.

Secretary of the National Security Council said that the law is the result of cooperation between the authorities and the opposition, and along with several other laws enacted in April, is expected to significantly strengthen the anti-corruption legislation.
