
Trade turnover between Iran and the United States in 2012 increased by 506% up to 137.2 thousand tons, director of the department of trade with Europe and America of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran Abdolhamid Asadiyan said in exclusive comments to ForUm correspondent. He specified that, in value terms, bilateral trade increased by 32% to $ 133.8 million.
According to official, imports from the U.S. increased by 511% up to 136.7 thousand tons worth $ 132.4 million. "The main Iranian products coming to the U.S. include raisins, handmade carpets, books and other printed publications. In turn, Iran imports from U.S. seeds of durum wheat, packed butter, wood pulp, food and drug additives, as well as medical instruments, equipment and prostheses," he said.
Asadiyan added that the growth of mutual trade turnover occurred at a time when the U.S. imposed new sanctions against Iran. "There are no direct trade relations between Iran and the United States, trade takes place through the third countries," the economist noted.
